Fundamental Techniques for Sweater Knitting

Fundamental Techniques for Sweater Knitting

JANUARY 18 3-6pm
AND
JANUARY 19 10:30a-1:30pm

This two-part course is designed for those knitters comfortable with knit and purl stitches, and who are ready to move on from knitting scarves to a sweater project. Students will learn fundamental techniques required when knitting a sweater, like how to count rows, use stitch markers, increase/decrease, and create ribbing and buttonholes. On Friday evening, students will create samples in order to become familiar with different cast-on methods, creating ribbing, increasing and decreasing at row ends, using markers to create cabling or patterns, binding off and reading pattern abbreviations. On Saturday morning, students will bring in their sweater projects and begin by making swatches for sizing, read over their sweater pattern and then learn to stitch the fabric together. Students can begin their own sweater projects with guidance from the instructor.
